Book First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. First Edition (SD). 'From the Studies In History, Economics And Public Law edited by the faculty of political science of Columbia University, Number 545.' This is a very rare book. I think there are only two for sale on the Internet, and one of them is a library book. Happily, my book is not, and it is in really nice condition. You can see the green covers in the photos. They're very clean. The gilt lettering on the spine is very bright. The edges and corners are in very good shape. The top page edge is a light green. The book is square and the spine is straight. The binding is very solid from cover to cover with nicely tight pages and nicely tight covers as well. The pages are exceptionally clean. I turned over many of them and scrolled through the others. I found no more than a two or three specks, and a tiny spot of over print. I didn't find any conspicuous creasing, no turned-down corners or placeholder creases. There are no markings. No attachments of any kind. And no one has written their name or anything else anywhere in the book. 'This book looks at a period in history from 1915-1916, which preceded the entrance of America into World War l. The movement, characterized as the Americanization Crusade stressed the desirability of rapid assimilation of immigrants through special classes, lectures and mass meetings.' From the preface: 'During the two-year period, 1915-1916, which preceded the entrance of America into the first World War, the nation was subjected to one of those social movements or crusades, which have periodically sprung up and colored the social history of the United States. The new movement, very aptly characterized as the Americanization Crusade, gained momentum as German-American relations went from bad to worse and beyond, remained very active during the War years and the immediate post-war era, and then died a gradual death as the nation found itself again in the blessings of "normalcy".'.
