First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Good to fine condition. First edition. Quarto. xvii, (1) 129pp., 18 plates. Original quarter leather over decorative boards with gilt lettering and ruling on spine, protected by modern mylar. Laid in four page illustrated prospectus for this title and color-illustrated flyer for the title "In My Mother's House" by Ann Nolan Clark. Illustrated title page. "The author of the present little book makes no pretense to original research, but she has selected with discrimination and has illustrated it with drawings of her own, made directly and faithfully from Hopi Kachina dolls in the collection of the Southwest Museum. Her obvious aim has been to incorporate the little series of myths and tales which lend themselves to illustration by means of effigies representing sacred Kachina personages such as appear in the religious ceremonies of the Pueblo tribes of Arizona and New Mexico, the Hopi and Zuni especially." (Foreword). The eighteen color drawings are reproduced lithographically, including prospectus and flyer. Contains list of plates and bibliography. Binding with some wear at leather spine, small chips and joints partially and lightly cracked. Illustrated Ex-Libris on inside front cover. Block lightly age-toned, not affecting images. Binding in good, interior in very good condition, lithographs fine.
