Esta obra del poeta mexicano fue promovida en la argentina ( y prologada en esta edición) por Jesús Flores Aguirre. Contiene varios facsímiles de acuarelas con temas y personajes urbanos. José de Jesús Núñez y Domínguez nació en la localidad Papantla, Veracruz el 27 de abril de 1887. Comienza sus estudios primarios en su ciudad natal, después, se trasladó a la Ciudad de México para ingresar a la Escuela Nacional Preparatoria con la intención de cursar la licenciatura en Derecho, pero abandonó la carrera para dedicarse al periodismo al revelar su verdadera vocación. Luis G. Urbina patrocinó las actividades iniciales en el periodismo con colaboraciones en El Mundo Ilustrado, la Revista Moderna y El Imparcial. Su primera obra poética apareció en 1915, con el título de Holocaustos. Después publicó los siguientes libros de poemas: La hora del Ticiano con prólogo de Francisco Villaespesa en [[1917]; Música suave en 1921; El inútil dolor con prólogo de José Juan Tablada en 1923; Espuma de mar en 1936; Poesías selectas en 1937 y Cartas sin sobre y posdatas de sonetos en 1957. Escritores franceses actuales con prólogo de Carlos González Peña, de 1941, Escritoras francesas contemporáneas con prólogos de Jules Romains y Luis Alberto Sánchez de 1945, libro dedicado a José Martí en México 1934 y Los poetas jóvenes de México y otros estudios literarios nacionalistas 1918 son sus trabajos de crítica que han recibido gran connotación dentro y fuera de México. Participa en el nacionalismo literario y artístico de 1917 con su ensayo El rebozo. Se publicó en 1925 una selección de sus crónicas, con prólogo de Luis G. Urbina, bajo el título: Las alas abiertas, aunque gran parte de su labor de cronista literario se encuentra dispersa en diarios y revistas. Cuentos mexicanos y la novela corta La Ojitos salen a la luz en el mismo año. Fue director y redactor de Revista de Revistas durante veinte años; director, miembro fundador y cronista literario de Excélsior en colaboración con Rafael Alducin. De 1940 a 1945 asume la dirección del periódico El Universal Gráfico. En 1944 fue director del Museo Nacional de Arqueología, Historia y Etnografía. Ingresó a la Academia Mexicana de la Lengua, como miembro Correspondiente el 26 de febrero de 1930, designado de número de la silla VIII el 27 de agosto de 1945 leyendo un discurso sobre José Juan Tablada, al que dio respuesta Alfonso Reyes, el 28 de enero de 1946. Fue nombrado miembro de número de la Academia Mexicana de la Historia en 1932, ocupando el sillón III.
