First Edition Signed
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Inscribed on the front free endpaper in black ink: "To Mr. John Seay, Kindest regards of John K Terres." Uncommon signed. Terres's second book; he would go on to win the John Burroughs Medal for *From Laurel Hill to Siler's Bog.* Terres was the editor of Audubon magazine for 12 years, and here is a selection of essays from its pages, most of them about wildlife. Nicely illustrated by Walter W. Ferguson. Notable contributors include Edward Way Teale (who also wrote the foreword) and Charlton Ogburn, Jr. A great way to be introduced to some mid-century nature writers including a number of women. A very good book that's still tight but has foxing to cloth, some stains to the top-stained green upper text block face. In a very good jacket with edge wear, light soiling, and darkening to spine; clipped, but not price-clipped. // Wood (+) River (=) Books specializes in ecology, natural history, nature writing, the environment, and environmental literature, with a special passion for association copies and notable inscriptions.
