Osa Johnson tells the thrilling and fascinating stories of her adventures and experiences while making friends with a number of the wild jungle creatures. The Story of Pantaloons the day old baby elephant that became a seasoned traveler in "Osa's Ark"; of four baby cheetahs; of No Sir, the big ant-eating pig; and many other delightful stories of Osa and her jungle friends. Martin Elmer Johnson (1884 ? 1937) and Osa Helen Johnson (1894 ? 1953) were married American adventurers, documentary filmmakers, and big game hunters. In the first half of the 20th century the couple captured the public's imagination through their films and books of adventure in exotic, faraway lands. Photographers, explorers, marketers, naturalists and authors, Martin and Osa studied the wildlife and peoples of East and Central Africa, the South Pacific Islands and British North Borneo. They explored then-unknown lands and brought back film footage and photographs, offering many Americans their first understanding of these distant lands. Before Joy Adamson went to Africa, before Margaret Mead sailed to Samoa, before Dian Fossey was even born, a Kansas teenager named Osa Leighty married Martin Johnson, a pioneering photographer just back from a 'round-the-world cruise with Jack London. Together the Johnsons filmed Simba and other popular nature movies with Martin behind the camera and Osa holding her rifle at the ready in case the scene's big game star should turn hostile.
