It was "soon recognized as a major contribution to legal science.and frequently cited in British courts" (Walker). One of the owners of our copy may have been Samuel B. McKee [1822-1887], an associate justice of the Supreme Court of California and, over the course of his judicial career, one of the longest serving judges in California history.
