It gives a sense of the prosaic minutiae and the dumb-struck wonder of traveling through space." - Time Magazine. "This account of what it is like to round the earth 17 times a day is direct and clear, full of nontechnical detail .it is altogether a strikingly beautiful book." - Scientific American. "Entering Space is the next best thing to being up there .a truly magnificent volume." - Toronto Star. "The text provides a good feel for what has now become the routine minutia of life in space - what it's like to eat, sleep, shave and 'go to work' coasting around the Earth at a speed of more than 17,000 mph." - Newsday. "Space travel will probably have become routine by the end of the century, but for those who want to know what awaits them someday this book is must reading, not only for its illuminating text but equally for its 200 full-color plates." - John Barkham Reviews. "The prose, written with Russell Martin, is solid and informative, with some standard touches of NASA gee-whiz awe and just enough conviction that we will remain outward bound." - Discover Magazine. "Without exception, it is the finest book yet written on the experience of space travel." - Buddy Nelson, KCBS Universe Magazine.

Cloth Over Boards. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good w/ Protective Cover. Various (Photographs) (illustrator). Signed. This square shaped book {10in. x 10in.} has very little corner bumping or edge wear. There is some lightening of the board edges, otherwise would appear as near new. Great photography throughout the text. Astronaut {Joe Allen} has signed the lower third of the half-title page. Very interesting gift inscription located across from the signature. Dated December 1985 it reads as follows: "Jo - I'm happy that you were able to share a part of our great adventure this year and thanks again for all the help that you provided for Linda, the children, and my parents. Some of the pictures in Dr. Allen's book remind me of the view out the window, but they'll never replace the real thing. The earth from 200 nmi is truly awesome, yet so very fragile. I hope those who care for it continue to be concerned. God bless, Don". Not sure but it reads like it could be another astronaut. Due to the width of the book, it will requrie additional shipping outside the United States. Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. Signed by Astronaut.

Revised and enlarged to include Joe Allen's first-hand account of the triumphant satellite rescue mission. 10"x10", 239 pages. Satisfaction Guaranteed. On November 12, 1984, astronaut Joseph P. Allen made history by retrieving from space the malfunctioning Indonesian Palapa B-2 satellite and returning it to the space shuttle Discovery. For the first time, a satellite was snared in space and returned to earth for repairs and eventual redeployment. This landmark achievement has launched a new phase of manned space flight, and we are one step closer to living and working in space. Now, in the revised edition of Entering Space Allen expands and updates the 1984 book to include this daring mission. In Entering Space, Allen shares his firsthand insights into the incomparable experience of traveling in space and brings the human dimension of our space program into focus. He gives us a fascinating account of a shuttle flight, describing the tension of a countdown and launch, the complexities of living for days in the strange weightless environment, the challenges of working in space, the emotional impact of seeing earth from space, the drama of the meteoric descent and landing. The book includes more than 200 dramatic color photographs taken by the astronauts and selected from tens of thousands in the NASA photographic laboratories. Many have never before been seen by the public. Here are pictures of life on board the spacecraft, glorious views of earth as seen from space, as well as startling images of the moon and the mysterious planets.
