Flexible boards. Condition: Near fine. 16mo (3.5" x 5.5"), 376pp., illustrated. A near fine copy in the publisher's brown limp leatherette wraps. Printed on heavy coated paper, this book was made to fall apart, yet is still generally sound, though the front inner hinge is partially cracked. TIP O'NEILL'S COPY, with his contemporary ownership signature on the front paste-down. O'Neill was, at the time, the Speaker of the Massachusetts State House of Representatives, though he would be elected to the US House in 1953, eventually serving as Speaker of the House, where he famously worked closely with Ronald Reagan to compromise between the firmly Democratic House and the Republican White House. This pocket guide to the State Senate and House members of the Massachusetts State Legislature also contains the profile of then-US Congressman John F. Kennedy, whose youthful portrait appears on page 12. This pocket guide is rare in commerce, and held by few institutions, according to OCLC. These guides were naturally thrown away year after year, as their information was out of date and no longer useful. In retrospect, this is a desirable piece of Kennediana, with unbeatable Massachusetts political provenance.
