First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Good. First American Edition; First Printing. Full leather with faded titles in gilt on spine. Edge and corner wear along with some scuffs to the leather. The covers have been reinforced but seem secure though care is recommended. Book is square and complete. Interior toning. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 368 pages; This is the stated First American Edition of Baron Knigge's sociological/philosophical work on human relations. Knigge's book was often viewd as a manual of etiquette so that the term "Knigge" in German came to mean something like "good manners." The book , however, is more on the ways that humans should interact to live a morally good life. This English translation may be more of a free interpretation by Peter Will since it says "after the German" rather than "translated from the German. " This volume was published in Lansingburgh New York which is now a part of Troy. Interesting early New York imprint.
