Sepia text and illustrations throughout . Numerous sketches of the battlefront in France. First title page has about 25% of an American Legion label remaining with the partial words COOK-N.Post.POINT. Text is in remarkable good condition considering this is a 1929 reprint. The words Six Hundredth Thousand. Book is Dedicated To The Memory of My Beloved Commander Lieut. Col. Charles W. Whittlesey Who Passed On To That Great Beyond November 29th 1921. Whittlesey's picture appears on the fold out along with the Official Photography of the Lost Battalion. Aproximately 50 seperate submissions plus a beginning Tribute, Memorial Address and Foreword and ending with an Afterword. Contents page lists: Our Commander, Up There, Memory Lane, Bully Beef, Cooties, Gassed, Fighting Mad, The Medal, The Debet, My Pals, Four Square, History of the Lost Battalion, Buddies, The Ambulance Driver, Killed In Action, We Are Coming Back, The Price, The War is Over and more. A unique, sensitive and touching book that is clearly a heartfelt labor of love. Buck Private McCollum was a recipient of a wartime Medal of Honor.

A collection of writings by, and verse inspired by, the 77th Infantry Division during World War I, now known as The Lost Battalion. The soldiers of this unit, commanded by Major Charles Whittlesey, were trapped in the Argonne Forest by German troops and rescue after heavy casualties. Their story inspired two films, one in 1919 and a remake in 2001.
