Book
Hardcover. Condition: Good. Lakeside Classic. There is wear and chipping at the head and tail of the spine and wear at the corners. On the spine the lettering is easily readable but not sharp. On the front cover the Lakeside emblem and border ( in gilt) are rather sharp. Inside the front cover some hinges are separating at the bottom. 137 pages, plus a 23 page historical introduction, the gilt on the top pages is faded, the outer edge of the pages are deckled. The frontispiece is a portrayal of Chicago in 1853 and the tissue guard is in place and not torn. There are no owner names, or bookplates. I find no underlining, no highlighting, no dogeared pages, not ex-libris, no smudges. For a century old plus volume it is in decent shape. Available for immediate shipment; carefully packed!.

Hardcover. 16mo. Green cloth with gilt rules, spine lettering and front board device. ix, 137pp. Top edge gilt. Frontispiece with captioned tissue guard. Very good. Faintest edgewear, with upper corner bumped but all gilt bright and sharp -- tight and internally fine. Quite nice copy of this early "Lakeside Classic," the annual keepsake given by this printer and publisher to friends and clients starting in 1903. This volume features contributions from William Bross, Charles Cleaver and famed actor Joseph Jefferson. Early Lakeside from their "green period" -- the first 24 years -- have become rather scarce in recent years.

Book
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: None. In this volume there have been gathered the personal experiences of some ten individuals who passed through the great Chicago Fire of 1871. The total area burned over was 2,124 acres, the number of buildings destroyed was about 17,450 and the persons rendered homeless nearly 100,000; out of a population of about 300,000. This work has two large fold-outs the first of which is opposite the title page and is entitled: "Chicago After the Great Fire of 1871". The fold out has four creases and just before the second crease from the spine of the work there is some light additional creasing near the top of the fold-out. The second fold out (after page 36) is a map showing the course of the Chicago Fire of 1871. This map has only two folds which include a "key to the map". 140 pages in the volume (plus a 31 page historical intorduction) with gilt at the top of the pages in nice condition, outer edge of pages are deckled. Volume itself has very dark green cloth (almost black) covers with sharp gilt lettering and borders on the spine, and a gilt border and the Lakeside Press Emblem on the front cover which are also sharp. There is wear at the head and tail of the spine and at outer corners. There is a clear archival quality removeable cover around the work and has been for the entire period of my ownership of the book. (over two decades). There are no owner names, no underlining, no highlighting, no bookplates, not ex-libris, no remainder marks, no dogeared pages, no smudging. For a work that is over a century old it is rather well preserved. Available for immediate shipment, carefully packed in a sturdy box.
