Card covers trade paperback size, 236pp some b&w photos and illustrations. Light wear to card edges, inscribed by editor to former owner on front fep; a very good copy. The four stories here, including the author's, were written shortly after the events described. (Other contributors are Ronald Butcher who tells of Renato's Story; Denis Parson who describes the Long War to Benevento; and Basil Moore who relates the Miracles in the Mountain.) They were all prisoners of PG 54 (P.G. 54) on the Via Salaria, about 40 kms north east of Rome. They, like many others, had escaped from their camp in September 1943 because they had thought the allied forces had landed near Naples and so would soon arrive. So they escaped and took temporary shelter in the nearby hills. Becoming scarce.
