Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. Later Printing. New York: Virtue and Yorston, 1874. O'Halloran's "History of Ireland" was first published in 1774 and was considered by many at the time as too sympathetic to pre-Norman Ireland. In the 1840s William Dolby expanded it to "the present times," and added "incidental remarks and moral reflections." This is a Very Good copy of an undetermined edition. Green cloth binding, blindstamped and filled with black. The original boards have been rebacked and new endpapers added. There is no publication date; several editions by various publishers were published from about 1846. Judging by the style of the binding, Quercus believes this to be the edition of 1874. This is a massive and attractive tome indeed! Royal octavo, 4.5 pounds in weight, with numerous steel engravings. Very clean and readable text, which is divided into three divisions: to the year 1171 (338 pages), to 1691 (364 pages), and up to the 1840s (another 114 pages). There is light soiling and the corners are bumped to a fray, but definitely a very solid copy of this major work, reissued for the Irish diaspora in America. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Later Printing. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
