Paperback. Condition: Very Good. 338 pages. When Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's diaries came to light in 2004, it was an indisputably historic event. His daughter, Ban gladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, had the notebooks their pag es by then brittle and discoloured- carefully transcribed and lat er translated from Bengali into English. Written during Sheikh Mu jibur Rahman's sojourns in jail as a state prisoner between 1967 and 1969,they begin with his recollections of his days as a stude nt activist in the run-up to the movement for Pakistan in the ear ly 1940s. They cover the Bengali language movement, the first sti rrings of the movement for Bangladesh independence andself-rule, and powerfully convey the great uncertainties as well as the grea t hopes that dominated the time. The last notebook ends with the events accompanying the struggle for democratic rights in 1955. T hese are Sheikh Mujib's own words-the language has only been chan ged for absolute clarity when required. What the narrative brings out with immediacy and passion is his intellectual and political journey from a youthful activist to the leader of a struggle for national liberation. Sheikh Mujib describes vividly how-despite being in prison-he was in the forefront of organizing the protest s that followed the declaration of Urdu as the state language of Pakistan. On 21 February 1952 the police opened fire on a peacefu l student procession killing many. That brutal action unleashed t he powerful movement that culminated in the birth of the new nati on of Bangladesh in 1971.

Soft cover. Condition: New. Paperback. Roy. 8vo. (24 x 17 cm). Edition in Turkish. 372 p., ills. Tamamlanmamis anilar. Mujib, was a Bengali politician and statesman. He is the founding father of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. He served as the first President of Bangladesh and later Prime Minister of Bangladesh from March 1971 until his assassination in August 1975. He is considered to be the driving force behind the independence of Bangladesh. He is popularly known under the title of Bangabandhu (Bôngobondhu "Friend of Bengal"). He became a leading figure in and eventually the leader of the Awami League, founded in 1949 as an East Pakistan-based political party in Pakistan. Mujib is credited as an important figure in efforts to gain politician autonomy for East Pakistan and later as the central figure behind the Bangladesh Liberation Movement and the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971. Thus, he is regarded Jatir Janak or Jatir Pita (Jatir Jônok or Jatir Pita, both meaning "Father of the Nation") of Bangladesh. His daughter Sheikh Hasina is the current leader of the Awami League and the present Prime Minister of Bangladesh. (Source: Wikipedia). This book is Turkish edition of his memoirs.
