Book
Soft cover. Condition: Fine. Ernst, Max, et al (illustrator). Promotional booklet for the 1947 movie produced and directed by Hans Richter. Thin 8vo pictorial card covers and five leaves with a four-leaf insert, all staple-bound. The film employs seven dreams shaped after the visions of contemporary artists. The dreams include: "Desire", inspired by Max Ernst's collages in his book "La Semaine de Bonte", "The Girl with the Fabricated Heart" based on work by Fernand Leger, "Ruth, Roses and Revolvers" from an original story by Man Ray, "Discs and Nudes Descending a Staircase" using the famous 1912 painting by Marcel Duchamp, "Ballet" and "Circus" based on works by Alexander Calder, and Richter's own "Narcissus". A fascinating catalog, with pictures and short biographies of the artists, summaries of the plot and the stories within it, pictures from the film, a complete listing of the cast and production personnel, and articles about the stories by Andre Breton, Man Ray and others. The lurid cover design is from a Max Ernst collage from his book "La Semaine de Bonte". One tiny chip at the upper rear cover and light dusting to the rear cover, else a fine copy.
