Includes several ephemera inserted within, including a promotional pamphlet for the film dramatisation of Sidney Ritternberg's life, 'The Revolutionary,' and a ticket to its screening at the 2012 Seattle International Film festival, and a 2016 newspaper clipping, the obituary of Mao Zedong's former aid Qi Benyu. Book inscribed by the author on the title page. Inscription reads, "For -- --, with best wish, [signed] Sidney Rittenberg, aka [name in Chinese characters]". Rittenberg, (1921-2019), was an American journalist who played a prominent role in the Chinese communist revolution and its aftermath. After having served the Communist government in the Broadcast Administration, he was imprisoned 16 years in solitary confinement before eventually returning to the US in 1980. Dust jacket is now protected in a clear, removable archival sleeve.
