Hardcover. Condition: Acceptable. 1865. HEAVY COVER WEAR. FOXING. TEARS. CRACKED HINGES. An acceptable hardcover copy. Foxing along page-edges, and onto most pages. Most pages have a range of tears on them. Multiple hinges are cracked or are beginning to crack. Book has a musty smell. Cover is heavily smudged and stained, and corners and edges are torn, bumped, and rubbed to expose cardboard. Heavy wear on spine. Book still holds together. No dust jacket. No ISBN. Booksavers receives donated books and recycles them in a variety of ways. Proceeds benefit the work of Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) in the U.S. and around the world.

Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. 2nd Edition. Thick 4to hardcover volume in leather boards. Original boards but spine has been reworked with new leathers and end papers have been taped with some type of binders tape. Original label is taped on to spine. While not a artistic reworking this has made the book very usable for reading and reference. All pages are tight and amazingly unfoxed. Very hard to find this book clean inside. 1021 pages and loads of engravings. Dated 1865 on copyright page.

Original pages of volume bound tightly, with some minimum random light staining, but text still legible. Many portraits are protected by tissue guard; frontispiece of President Lincoln and General Grant, opposite, tissue guard between portraits. Second edition revised and completed by Brockett from Schmucker's 3-volume 1863 edition. Illustrated with over 150 Fine Portraits of Generals, Battle Scenes. Maps and Diagrams.
