This extensive work provides a complete account of the Metallurgical treatment of a range of metals, whilst examining the scientific principles underlying each process. Dr. Carl Schnabel was a German mining scientist and a renowned authority on metallurgy. This work is complete in two volumes, with the first examining the metallurgy of Copper, Lead, Silver, Gold. These have been grouped together because of their occurrence together in the same mineral deposits, and also due to the extensive methods employed in their extraction. Volume II examines 'the remaining metals': Zinc, Cadmium, Mercury, Bismuth, Tin, Antimony, Arsenic, Nickel, Cobalt, Platinum, and Aluminium. With numerous in-text illustrations throughout. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with gilt stamped title to spine and gilt stamped crest to front board. Externally very smart with slight bumping to extremities and head and tail of spine. Bookseller's label tipped to front pastedown. Slight offsetting to endpaper, with the odd scattered spot. Internally firmly bound. During this period he contributed extensively to the Jewish papers. Schnabel emigrated to America in 1869 and became superintendent of the Hebrew Orphan Asylum of New York, establishing at the same time a magazine,'Young Israel,' which existed for eight years. In 1875 he became principal of the preparatory school for the Hebrew Union College; and in 1890 he took charge of the English classes for Russian immigrants established by the Baron de Hirsch Fund.
