".still in existence and all of the old customs are kept up with great care. It is the oldest Social Society in the world today" (Gee). "It is the most ancient fishing club that exists, and its founders are said to have passed a treaty.granted to them and their descendants for ever, the right and privilege to hunt the woods and fish the waters of the Schuylkill" (Westwood & Satchell). "The entire Schuylkill story is highly important in American angling history." (Bruns). "Philadelphia saw the organization of no less than five different fishing clubs before the Revolution.they relied in good part on the skills of the members as fishermen for the success of their banquets. The first and by far the most important was of course the Schuylkill Fishing Company" (Schullery). Sadly, there is very little mention of fishing in the book. Very good.
