In the publisher's original decorative cloth binding with elaborate gilt detail. With a photograph by the influential Scottish photographer, G. W. Wilson, to the title page, and thirteen mounted photographs by Thomas Ogle throughout, showcasing the beautiful scenery of Scotland. Collated complete. 'The Lady of the Lake', is a famous narrative poem by the renowned Scottish writer, Sir Walter Scott. The poem is structured in six cantos, each individually concerning the actions of a single day. With reference throughout to King James V of Scotland and a war between the Lowland Scots and the Highland Clans. The half title page is present. With an ink inscription from the previous owner dated 1867 to the front paste-down, alongside a bookseller's stamp. The plate of, 'Beal-Nam-Bo', on page 100 is loose but present. Lacking the front free endpaper. In the original, full decorative cloth binding. Externally, with shelf wear to the extremities. Spine is darkened with bumping, and a small amount of loss to the upper spine. Light marks to the boards, with some darkening to the edges. The cloth at the front joint has torn, although the joint itself is still very firm. Foxing to the paste-downs and free endpapers. Ink inscription and bookseller's stamp to the front paste-down. Lacking the front free endpaper. Front hinge is strained but still firm. Internally binding strained. The plate on page 100 is loose but present. Pages age-toned but otherwise generally bright and clean with scattered handling marks. Spotting to the plates and towards the front and rear. Good. book.
