New York: The Macmillan Co., 1936. 437pp. Pictures of journalism and politicians by a newspaper and literary critic of the period 1912-1936. George Slocombe (1894-1963) was the chief foreign correspondent for the British leftist newspaper the London Daily Herald during the 1920s and later wrote for the Evening Standard. [From Kirkus Reviews] An English newspaper man, later a special correspondent, covers virtually all the important post war conferences. He etches in the international backgrounds. He gives - at long last - interviews with people who have risen to fame since, or faded out at the other end of the horn. He touches on the leading figures in Germany, France, Italy, Spain, England, Austria. It is good reading, in somewhat the vein of Vincent Sheean. A book that newspaper men, particularly, would enjoy, not only for the travel adventure aspects, but for the analysis of English newspapers.
