Blue, decorative cloth with blind stamped ox-drawn wagon and outriders. CONDITION DESCRIPTION: Edges with minor rubbing, else near fine. Interior has inked stamp of former owner on preliminary page (A. L. Hunter), else is very clean and tight. CONTENTS DESCRIPTION: The Battalion was comprised of Mormon soldiers and Company officers all commanded by US officers. Henry Standage was a private in Co. E. The Battalion left in 1846 from Ft. Leavenworth and marched a grueling 2100 miles to San Diego. The march also opened a southern wagon route to California. Veterans of the Battalion played significant roles in America's westward expansion in California, Utah, Nevada, Arizona and other parts of the West. A complete roster is included.
