There is some soiling to spine and rear board, and Union Flag on front cover is slightly rubbed to its centre. Internally, no writing or stamps. Very occasionally soiled pages; some remain uncut. All maps and plates present. A useful copy of a very scarce edition. xix, 546(8)pp Octavo. Original red pictorial cloth boards. Spine has gilt title. Fading and soiling on cover. Cover has a few small stains. Endpapers are a pale brownish-yellow with a blocky design on them. Some dust soiling on top text block edge. Numerous black and white full and half page illustrations throughout text, plus a folding map. A few pages towards the back half have slight rippling from moisture. Various book ads published by Remington & Co. Ltd on last pages of book. Some faint marks on a few pages throughout book. Good to very good copy. Thomas bland Strange (aka "gunner jingo") was a British solider who during the North-West Rebellion in in 1885 was noted in his service in the Canadian militia. During this time he was a retired major-general and lived near Modern Day Calgary. He was asked to form The Alberta Field Force during the rebellion which he then became the commander of, this is what he is most known for.
