Book First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. First British Edition. A very nice copy of this scarce first British edition, published a year after the American first. The cloth boards have a maroon leather spine with crisp title lettering in gilt. The spine itself is somewhat rubbed giving the appearance almost of being like suede leather. Probably a good polishing would sort this out if the buyer felt the need. There is a little pull at the head of the spine and a little worn patch at the foot. Neither are too noticeable, being very small areas. Minor knocking and wear to the corner tips of the boards; again not really too noticeable, only on much closer inspection. Browning to the end papers, not too severe; and some minor foxing here and there, only mentioned here in the interests of clarity and fairness. Name of previous owner written in ink pen on a small piece of paper has been stuck on the front free end paper at some point in the book's history, probably quite early on, although the inscription is not dated, so it's difficult to say definitively. Fabulous plates of carriages, tack, stables, racing scenes and other throughout the book. A tremendous, charming book.
