Hardcover. Condition: Good. Green cloth, beveled-edge boards on this over-sized volume, 9.5x13, are soiled, corners are rubbed, gold and darker green decoration of mermaid and man being shot with cupid's arrow remains vivid. (Not sure why there is a mermaid on the cover.) Cloth hinge has held the binding together admirably over these past 130+ years, some fingerprints and smears. Twelve steel engravings. Brossura editoriale, piatto anteriore, posteriore e dorso, conservati entro bella legatura artigianale in mezza-pelle verde mare con dorso a 5 nervi con titolo impresso in oro ad un tassello. Piatti foderati di bella carta marmorizzata . Piatti interni foderati con bellissima carta marmorizzata a sfondo azzurro. Taglio superiore riccamente dorato. Una piccola fioritura leggera in due pagine, ininfluente e nel complesso, esemplare in ottime condizioni di conservazione. L'edizione si avvale di XVI pagine di introduzione di Guy de Maupassant. Bellissima edizione di una delle opere più importanti del celebre storico, scrittore e traduttore, Antoine François Prévost, detto d'Exiles, più noto con il titolo ecclesiastico, sotto il nome di abbé Prévost (Hesdin, 1º aprile 1697 Chantilly, 25 novembre 1763). Pubblicato con il titolo "Storia del cavaliere Des Grieux e di Manon Lescaut" (Histoire du chevalier Des Grieux et de Manon Lescaut), ma noto anche semplicemente come Manon Lescaut, venne pubblicato per la prima volta nel 1731, come settimo e ultimo volume delle "Mémoires et aventures d'un homme de qualité" (Memorie e avventure di un uomo di qualità), anche se in seguito Manon Lescaut, visse poi di vita propria, anche per la notevole differenza di contenuti fra quest'opera nella quale la parte preponderante è la descrizione della forza dirompente delle passioni ed i precedenti volumi. All'uscita, il romanzo diede tale scandalo da venir subito bandito dalla Francia e le copie recuperate date alle fiamme. Nonostante questo, numerose copie clandestine girarono per l'Europa, garantendo la sopravvivenza ed il successo dell'opera. Nel 1753 Prévost pubblicò una nuova edizione attenuando alcuni aspetti ritenuti scandalosi e introdusse considerazioni maggiori moralistiche. Edizione di pregio in bella legatura artigianale.
