Hardcover. Condition: Good. Select Fables of Aesop and Other Fabulists, In Three Books, by R. Dodsley (Robert Dodsley). A New Edition. The book is complete, and after the preliminary sections, is comprised of 3 sections: Book I: From the Ancients; Book II: From The Moderns; Book III: Newly Invented. Printed for William Osborne & J & H Mozley, Gainsborough. Undated, but c. 1800 (date estimate from British Library records estimated themselves, and there is an owner's inscription dating to 1804 on the first free endpaper). A good hardback copy in full speckled calf leather. Some cracking to upper front hinge. Inside font and rear pastedowns have remains of red wax seals. Overall text is bright and clean with occasional spotting and age toning, and some small ink spots to edge of text block. A few faults; p49 - tear; missing around 2/3rds of the lower part of the page. Pages 19 and 21 tear; curved tear affecting lower third of page - paper still attached and no losses. There are very occasional other small paper flaws, but still a very attractive book copiously illustrated with woodblock engravings. Text in English. Engraved frontispiece + Title + xlviii + 228pp + 24pp Index to all 3 'Books'. Weight approximately 302g (unpacked). Dimensions: Approximately 180mm high x 112mm wide x 22mm deep.
