Hardcover. Condition: Fair. FAIR/NO DUST JACKET as issued. 391 pp (hand-numbered), toned, with some soilage and foxing, text block coming away from binding, some pp loose from the stitches, but all are intact. P.o. name and gift inscription on FFEP. A collection of stories about the lives of children and their families. Illustrated boards are rubbed on edges and corners, with some soilage, but the front is a very pretty full-color drawing (by H. Bencke) of a well-dressed little girl with a basket of flowers out for a walk. Blue cloth spine is quite worn and faded.

Decorative Cloth. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: No DJ. The decorative cloth cover has a colored picture of a young girl and boy on th grass by a lake with the title "Pansies for Thoughts". Along the bottom of the cover, from front to back is a colored panel of pansies. Back cover has a circular picture of a young girl, plus a scattering of yellow winged butterflies. The cover is intact but faded and has dusty soiling, the corners, edges and spine are worn. The front flyleaf has a gift inscription (December 25, 1887) and a penciled price. The book pages are unnumberd but must total over 300. The book does not provide a contents page but is an eclectric collection of stories, rhymes, history, biography etc. from"The Family in the Pine Tree to St. George and the Dragon to Winter in Manitoba. Illustrations, many full page from the frontspiece "The Little Pipers" to Patio of a Privae House, Cordova Spain to Napoleon Bonaparte, to Alfred Tennyson to Our Pet (a cute dog). Pansy, the famous author and Editor wrote a book titled "Pansies for Thoughts" - a collection of religous thoughts (not included in this book) for each month of the year- hence her selection ot the book cover illustration.
