Hardcover. Condition: Fair. each volume 3 1/2 X 5 1/2 inches. Volume I, 202 pages, volume III, 207 pages, volume V, 179 pages. Each has a frontis illustration, volume III also has a full-length portrait at the beginning. Full calf binding with red leather label on spine. Condition of the books is Fair; volumes I & III leather is scuffed, volume III small piece of leather missing on spine below label, volume V, spine label missing, areas of leather on covers is blackened with crackling and flaking, leather at exterior joints is cracked but hinges on all 3 volumes are sound, text is generally clean with some occasional foxing and toning, volume V has more foxing and staining. Each volume has the signature, in ink, on ffep & title page of Joseph L. Tillinghast. Joseph Livingsron Tillinghast (1790-1844) was U.S. Representative from Rhode Island. Poetry stack.

Early edition. A superb set. Small 8vo, bound in full contemporary 18th century speckled brown calf. Raised bands with gilt decorations to bands and compartments of spine, boards are ruled with a double line of gilt. All 24 engraved plates are present as called for. Some signs of use to boards with some rubbing to extremities and some portions of wear to boards, vol. VII partially lacks leather to top compartment of spine, vols. V and VI lack very small portions of leather to tails of spine o/w a remarkably clean and sound set. The contents are clean and fresh.
