Condition: Very good. - Small quarto [10-3/8 inches high by 7-1/2 inches wide], decorative cream paper covered boards backed with tan cloth, titled in blue with decorations in gilt on the spine & with 2 decorative bands in gilt & blue and 2 reddish brown leather ties on each board. The boards are bumped. The head & tail of the spine are chipped & stained with small areas of staining to the adjacent corners of the boards. 87 & [5] pages plus colophon. Illustrated with 25 color reproductions of miniatures, including the pictorial title, & with 4 head-pieces in brown. There is offsetting to the front endpaper, flyleaf & rear blanks from the leather ties. Very good. There is a gift inscription to literary critic Oscar Cargill on the front endpaper.

This book, from which five hundred copies on madagascar paper, numbered from 1 to 500, was printed on the press on November 19th. 1947. Blue lettering & gilt & blue spine & cover double hinge-like decorations on cream color paper(?) covered boards. The ends of the hinge-like decorations show the ends of thin leather straps (which I did not try to pull out). The book is written in French. Contents are: Printemps by Andre Gide; Ete, by Jules Romaines; Automne by Colette; and Giver by Francois Mauriac. 10-1/2" X 8", 24 beautiful color plates. Spine ends worn, contents fine.

The text block is in fine condition with no marks, tears, or dog ears. The full-color full-page illustrations from religious art are beautifully executed and in fine condition. The pages pages are age-browned as are the end pages. The first free end-paper is missing, but the second one is intact and comes before the title page. The bone-colored [leather?] cover is in good to fair condition with some tiny spots on the front with discolorations on both sides. There evidently were leather clasps or ties, but only a piece of one remains. There is corner bumping. The spine is bumped, top and bottom. Even with these defects, the book is beautiful with its many illustrations and rare in this limited edition. 10 ½? x 7 ½?, 93 pages, 19 ounces. XX Subtitle in French: Images of Yesterday and pages (text) of today. Four essays: Spring (Andre Gide), Summer (Jules Romains), Autumn (Colette), Winter (François Mauriac).
