Final draft script for the 1940 film. Notation on front wrapper in manuscript purple ink adding ."9A" to the production number. Notations in manuscript pencil in script adding tics to dialogue and names on the verso of pages. Laid in are 3 blue "retake" pages dated after principal photography had been completed. A remake of T. Hayes Hunter's 1920 silent film of the same name. Irving Pichel's "Earthbound" finds Nick Desborough (Warner Baxter) called away from his honeymoon with Ellen (Andrea Leeds) for business in Paris, only to find his ex-mistress Linda Reynolds (Lynn Bari) sent the telegram. Linda, rejected by Nick, shoots and kills him and her husband Jeff (Henry Wilcoxon) is arrested and tried for the crime. Nick's ghost helps guide Ellen to clear Jeff and convict Linda so he can rest in peace. Set in Paris and Switzerland. Blue titled wrappers, noted as FINAL on the front wrapper, rubber-stamped copy No. 33 and production No. 1884, dated January 12, 1940. Distribution page present, with receipt intact. Title page present, dated January 12, 1940, noted as Final Script, with credits for screenwriter Samuel G. Engel. 146 leaves, with last page of text numbered 140.
