Drug trafficking and the financing of terrorism. 6. Narcoterrorism and the long reach of U.S. Law enforcement. 7. Illegal drug trade. Bibliography. Index. Narco-terrorism is a term coined by former President Fernando Belaunde Terry of Peru in 1983 when describing terrorist-type attacks against his nation s anti-narcotics police. In its original context, narco-terrorism is understood to mean the attempts of narcotics traffickers to influence the policies of a government or a society through violence and intimidation, and to hinder the enforcement of anti-drug laws by the systematic threat or use of such violence. Pablo Escobar s violence in his dealings with the Colombian government is probably one of the best known and best documented examples of narco-terrorism. In order words, narco-terrorism may refer a wide range of situations, including violence perpetrated by drug traffickers to further and protect their economic interests, the resort to drug trafficking and terrorist tactics by state actors, the use of drug trafficking or directly and indirectly related activities by terrorist organizations to fund their operations, cooperation between drug traffickers and terrorist organizations for mutual gains, and the merger of drug trafficking organizations and terrorist organizations to carry out both drug trafficking and terrorist activities.

Hardcover. Condition: New. 1st Edition. Contents: Preface. 1. Army attack aviation. 2. Military aviation. 3. United States Army aviation. 4. Army aviation in India. 5. Nuclear shadows on high-tech warfare. 6. Helicopter aviation in modern warfare. 7. Airpower and Conventional warfare. 8. Asymmetric warfare. 9. Airborne forces. 10. Low intensity warfare. Bibliography. Index. Aviation became a basic branch of the Army, April 12, 1983, and today the mission of Army aviation is to find, fix and destroy any enemy through fire and maneuver and to provide combat support and combat service support in coordinated operations as an integral member of the combined arms team fully integrated within joint operational framework. An army aviation unit is an aviation-related unit of a nation s army, often described as an air corps. These units are generally separate from a nation s dedicated air force, and usually comprise helicopters and light support fixed-wing aircraft. Prior to the establishment of separate national air forces, many armies had Military aviation units, which as the importance of aviation increased, were spun off into Independent services. As the separation between nation s army and air force led to a divergence of priorities, many armies re-established their own organic aviation branches to best serve their own needs. Military aviation is the use of Military aircraft and other flying machines for the purposes of conducting or enabling aerial warfare, including national airlift (air cargo) capacity to provide logistical supply to forces stationed in a theater or along a front. Airpower includes the national means of conducting such warfare, including the intersection of transport and war craft. Military aircraft include bombers, fighters, transports, trainer aircraft, and reconnaissance aircraft. The main objective of this book is to highlight the evolution, importance and current status of this means of transportation. It also aims to promote awareness about this sector, so that it can be utilized in a better way.

Hardcover. Condition: New. 1st Edition. Contents: Preface. 1. Introduction. 2. America s counterterrorism and Al-qaeda. 3. US-India counter-terrorism cooperation. 4. National security justification for counter terrorism responses. 5. Counter terrorism and human rights protection. 6. Counterterrorism: diplomatic and intelligence operations. 7. Pakistan s counterterrorism. 8. Counter-terrorism and national security of African states. 9. Counternetwar. Bibliography. Index. Counter terrorism (also spelled counterterrorism) (also called anti-terrorism) incorporates the practice, military tactics, techniques, and strategy that government, military, law enforcement, business, and intelligence agencies use to combat or prevent terrorism. Enhancing international counter-terrorism cooperation through the participation of regional organizations has been addressed by only a small number of scholarly studies, most of them limited to analyzing counter-terrorism challenges and activities in a particular geographical region. This article attempts to fill this vacuum through examining regional contributions to global counter-terrorism efforts, particularly by exploring the role of regional organizations in implementing the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism strategy. Regional security complex theory holds that security is a regional phenomenon, since most threats travel more easily over short distances than long ones. Indeed, in a globalized world, it would be difficult to comprehend the security dynamic of one country without inserting it into a a broader regional context and without grasping the conflicting or cooperative patterns that defines the external policy of that country with its neighbours. This book offers an accessible introduction to counterinsurgency operations a key aspect of modern warfare.

Hardcover. Condition: New. 1st Edition. Contents: Preface. 1. The proliferation of Jihadist organizations in Pakistan. 2. Indian Mujahideen: the secret Jihad in South Asia. 3. Jihadism movement. 4. Al-Qaida s in Southeast Asia. 5. The Jihad in India and Kashmir. 6. Jihadist terrorism. 7. The Islamic Doctrine of Jihad. Bibliography. Index. Meanwhile, in Pakistan, the Haqqani network, the most potent branch of the Taliban, moved from North Waziristan into the adjacent district of Kurram. From there it continues to enjoy safe haven and conduct its insurgency against American, international and Afghan targets. Pakistan regards Afghanistan as its backyard. Determined not to let its archrival, India, gain influence there, and to ensure that Afghanistan remains in the Sunni Islamist camp, Pakistan has used the Taliban selectively, promoting those who further its agenda and cracking down on those who don t. The same goes for Al Qaeda and other foreign fighters. As some irregulars are financially dependent on what they consider Jihad, others are spiritually and psychologically so. Many irregulars who fought in Afghanistan are now fighting in Kashmir and are likely to continue looking for new Jihads to fight even against Pakistan itself. The ISI s fingerprints are apparent in almost every major terrorist activity in recent years. After promoting the Taliban in Afghanistan, ISI operatives facilitated the participation of Pakistani and other cadres in Jihad in Bosnia, Kosovo, Chechnya, Dagestan and even Nagorno-Karabakh.
