Thurmond Wesley Arnold (1891-1969), distinguished American lawyer, especially remembered for his trustbusting campaign as Assistant Attorney in charge of the Antitrust Division in FDR;s Department of Justice, 1938-43. Arnold was a native of Wyoming, educated at Princeton and Harvard, who served as mayor of Laramie, member of the Wyoming House of Representative and taught at the University of Wyoming, West Virginia College of Law, and Yale Law School. He later served as an Associate Justice of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia. Arnold developed a reputation as a maverick lawyer. Former Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglas, wrote in his Foreword to thos volume: "Thurman Arnold --lawyer, legislator, mayor, professor, and judge--has been more deeply concerned with the problems of our age than anyone I know--whether it be the poll tax, segregation of races, company unions, price fixing, or the war against poverty and illiteracy. He campaigns vigorously in every drawing room, as well as in public forums, for the causes he espouses. He is a versatile advocate; and a dangerous opponent.".
