Tanboury, a very nice old man, is excited to buy a new pair of shoes to replace his battered, much mended old pair. But the old shoes do not go easily into the night! A strange tale, but no stranger than most folk tales. Ballas immigrated from Baghdad to Israel, where he first wrote in Arabic but eventually mastered Hebrew and became know for his stories, articles, and books written in Hebrew. For a number of years he contributed to the Egyptian and Iraqi press. At the age of twenty-one, he and his family immigrated to Israel. At first Mr. Ballas continued to write in Arabic but after a number of years he mastered Hebrew. Today he is know for his stories, articles and books written in Hebrew. Ora Eitan, one of Israel's most promising artists, has won several important awards for illustration and design.
