Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Eitan, Ora (illustrator). Possible First. Possible first printing with $3.95 on jacket flap, but no indication of printing. Tanboury, a very nice old man, is excited to buy a new pair of shoes to replace his battered, much mended old pair. But the old shoes do not go easily into the night! A strange tale, but no stranger than most folk tales. Ballas immigrated from Baghdad to Israel, where he first wrote in Arabic but eventually mastered Hebrew and became know for his stories, articles, and books written in Hebrew. Intriguing three-color illustrations by Ora Eitan. Book is FINE, very clean and fresh, unmarked. Dust jacket has some rubbing and a few short tears, original price intact on front flap. Not Signed.

Condition: Good. 1970. No Edition Remarks. 40 pages. Illustrated dust jacket over brown cloth boards. Gilt lettering. Contains black and white and colour illustrations. Clean pages and illustrations with light tanning and mild foxing throughout. Pencil markings to front free endpaper. Binding remains firm. Boards have mild edge-wear with slight rubbing to surfaces and bumping to corners. Gilt lettering is bright and clear. Unclipped jacket. Panels and spine have light edgewear with tears and creases. Visible wear marks to spine and panels.

Tanboury finally saves enough money to buy new shoes but no matter what he does he can't get rid of his old ones. Shimon Ballas was born in Baghdad. For a number of years he contributed to the Egyptian and Iraqi press. At the age of twenty-one, he and his family immigrated to Israel. At first Mr. Ballas continued to write in Arabic but after a number of years he mastered Hebrew. Today he is know for his stories, articles and books written in Hebrew. Ora Eitan, one of Israel's most promising artists, has won several important awards for illustration and design.
