Hardback, octavo, appx 7 x 8 3/4 inches, 48 pages, VG+ in G- dj (dj in mylar). Author Bethers (1902-1973), a listed artist, has SIGNED the book by lettering his name across the center of the FFEP. Previous owner has signed his name and date (June 1962) neatly beneath this in ballpoint near lower left corner of FFEP. Otherwise book is sound and clean with only light wear to corners and spine-ends. Book covers (paper-covered boards with a cloth backstrip) feature 2 different full-bleed b&w photos front and back. Dustjacket has a 4" to 5" tear to the front panel down from the head of spine which is mostly closed, but has a chip missing near the end of the tear. Otherwise, the dj has a little additional tattering + light soil to the back panel. (Unlike the front panel of dj which repeats the book's front cover illustration, the back panel of dj does not repeat the illustration on the book's back cover, but instead features a detailed biography of the author with his photo in an inset). Title is scarce, as well as are any books signed by this author/illlustrator. Bethers was with the Navy in WWII and developed a naval recognition technique used in CAN YOU NAME THEM? There are 23 full-page photographs throughout the book, with photographer credits noted at the rear (along with the various property rights of Sinclair, Standard Oil, Arabian American Oil Company, etc.).
