Housed in the original olive green envelope-wrapper. Collector's edition, limited to 400 copies. Book is crisp and clean, with tight binding and sharp corners. Two tiny spots on rear endpapers. The story of the author's overland trek to California, which first appeared in Century Magazine in the early 1890's. Illustrated with Remington's art. Small 4to. 54 pp.

Original green cloth, quarto (8 x 10.5 inches), 76pp. Endpaper maps, b/w plates and illustrations. Originally published in The Century Magazine for December 1890 and February 1891. In 1848 Bidwell made a fortune in the gold rush, the following year he bought 26000 acres of the upper Sacramento Valley-naming his property Rancho Chico, in 1860 he laid out the town of Chico. Bidwell died in 1900. Faint fading to covers, but very good, else quite clean and unworn. Gift inscription to front blank leaf First edition thus, limited to 1950 copies.
