Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book explores oceanographic methods used and results obtained in the eastern tropical Pacific Ocean by the Scripps Institution of Oceanography with funding from the Bureau of Commercial Fisheries, part of a program investigating the relationship between the environment, zooplankton, phytoplankton, and commercially important species like tuna. The study, conducted in 1958, was the first of its kind and provides essential insights into seasonal and regional variations in primary production and standing crop of tuna food sources. The data from this expedition has been used to evaluate biological events in the ocean environment, including the distribution and abundance of tuna eggs and larvae in waters west of the Mexican mainland. This research has been instrumental in the understanding of tuna abundance and the broader marine ecosystem they inhabit, aiding in efforts to manage and conserve these valuable fish species.
