First Edition
First U.S. edition. Translated from the Spanish by Weinberger, introduction by Reid. Galley proof of Borges text only. No title or copyright page. 63 numbered pages printed on rectos only. Folio unprinted cream wraps with New Directions address label with publication information for hard cover and paperback issues pasted at top ("addressed" to Bridgette Weeks, Washington Post Book World from Elizabeth Harper, Publicity Director) and with glossy dust jacket mock-up pasted below the address label (differs slightly from the eventual dust jacket--no translation credit under the title). Copy of a hand-corrected typescript of Reid's introduction is laid in: 4 numbered pages, rectos only, stapled. The book collects seven lectures delivered by Borges in Buenos Aires between June and August 1977 on "Seven Nights." A little soiling and light wear otherwise near fine. Quite scarce.
Stiff wraps. Uncorrected Proof. Stiff wraps. Uncorrected Proof. This is an uncommon galley proof that apparently was prepared for several prominent book reviewers. It is signed by Borges in his blind hand on the first page, and scarce thus. The book collects seven lectures delivered by Borges in Buenos Aires between June and August 1977. Previously published in Spanish. Translated from the Spanish by Eliot Weinberger and with an introduction by Alastair Reid. This has only text with no title or copyright page. Age toning to the pages which are unprinted cream wraps. It is addressed to Rebecca Slinker of the Philadelphia Inquirer with the return address of Elizabeth Harper, publicity director. A New Directions address label with publication information for hard cover and paperback issues is pasted at top. There is a glossy dust jacket mockup pasted below the address label. The lower portion of the mock up has come loose where the glue has dried out. A copy of a hand-corrected typescript of Reid's four page introduction is laid in. All in all a quite scarce item. Signed by the author.
