Paperback -- SUMMARY Le thème principal de cet ouvrage est double : une synthèse de nos connaissances sur la situation actuelle du dessin de la Renaissance en Espagne et l'émergence d'un statut spécifique du dessin dans la péninsule à partir des années 1560 et surtout, avec de plus en plus d'évidence à partir des années 1580. Une des difficultés principales repose sur l'assertion de l'absence du dessin en Espagne pendant toute la première moitié du XVIe siècle et la présence d'un nombre restreint de feuilles pour la seconde moitié avant l'âge baroque. La pratique du dessin par les artistes espagnols devient de plus en plus manifeste au fil des années pour s'affirmer dans la seconde moitié du XVIe siècle. Elle permet d'établir des relations pertinentes entre la consolidation de cette pratique et des phénomènes historiques et politiques. La corrélation entre plusieurs faits historiques tels que l'affirmation d'une culture espagnole sous le règne de Philippe II et ses conséquences sur le dessin est ainsi de mieux en mieux recensée dans les sources : le monastère de l'Escorial est sans conteste le lieu symbolique de l'émergence d'une culture vernaculaire au cours de la seconde moitié du siècle. L'affirmation d'une pratique du dessin coïncide avec l'affermissement des usages de la langue vernaculaire dans l'écrit à tous les niveaux de la société. Les relations avec l'appréhension du dessin dans la théorie artistique font l'objet d'une importante partie de l'ouvrage. La présence d'une position théorique sur le dessin, considéré également dans ses aspects pratiques, y est exposée en même temps que les positions marginales d'artistes de premier plan, tels Francisco de Holanda et Greco, qui ont énoncé la primauté du dessin comme fondement de toute connaissance artistique. Leurs réflexions y sont discutées dans un contexte où le dessin est encore peu considéré comme champ spécifique.
