Frontispiece: Rupert Brooke (1887 - 1915) portrait w/tissue guard. Already admired for his verse, following his death, soldier-poet Brooke became a symbol in England of the tragic loss of talented youth claimed by World War I. Known for his idealistic war sonnets written during the First World War, especially The Soldier. Brooke was also known for his boyish good looks, which prompted Irish poet William Butler Yeats to describe him as "the handsomest young man in England".
