Decorative Cloth. Condition: Good. Weisgard, Leonard (illustrator). No Cover. Ex-Library. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. This large decorative cloth hardcover book of animal stories and poems has no dustjacket and is in excellent condition. The mostly white covers have minor wear on the faces and a little around the edges and corners but look good with an illustrated picture of a mouse on a toad stool on the front. The book measures 11 inches tall by 8 1/2 inches wide. The spine is tight with minor wear. The pages are white with little wear and few marks. The book was a Columbus Nebraska school resource book and has a pocket and one stamp but little evidence of that kind of wear. The illustrations are well done in two color (mostly green) with poems on every other page or so. The pages are not numbered but appear to be about 60. No edition is specified. "From 1944 to 1946, Doubleday published three picture books written by Brown under the pseudonym "Golden MacDonald" (coopted from her friend's handyman) and illustrated by Leonard Weisgard. Weisgard was a runner-up for the Caldecott Medal in 1946, and he won the 1947 Medal for Little Lost Lamb and The Little Island. Two more of their collaborations appeared in 1953 and 1956, after Brown's death. The Little Fisherman, illustrated by Dahlov Ipcar, was published in 1945. The Little Fur Family, illustrated by Garth Williams, was published in 1946. Early in the 1950s she wrote several books for the Little Golden Books series, including The Color Kittens, Mister Dog, and Scuppers The Sailor Dog." (from Wikipedia).
