Trade Paperback. Condition: Good. Benda, W. T. (illustrator). 59th Printing. 371 Pages. The 59th printing of a 1954 copyright of the orginal published first in 1918. Some wear showing at bottom of cover and near the spine bottom. The American pioneer, returning to his country today, would find himself a stranger in a strange land. The cities of the plain have grown large and they have darkened the landscape. The values of an earlier time have been deeply eroded. During her lifetime, Willa Cather wrote with increasing anger against this loss, and she sought in her novels to recover the precious, the incommunicable past. In My Antonia, her famous portrait of a pioneer woman and very likely her best novel, she captured intact the strengths and passions of the early settlers, their spiritual attachment to the land they worked and came to love. These values inform what is both a vital novel of the American experience and a class of world literature.

Last date on copyright page is 1926 however if you look at other books by Willa Cather page, they list up to 1932. Willa Cather published two books in 1932, Obscure Destinies, and Neighbor Rosicky. Only the former is listed. Additionally, no mention of Lucy Gayheard (1935). No date on title page. Interestingly, the DJ lists titles on rear that were published in 1941, so despite the copyright page stating 1926, this was likely printed in 1932 and housed in a 1941 DJ. DJ is original with $2.50 price intact on flap. Shallow chip at heel otherwise VG++. Book is tight. Binding and hinges are sound. Illustrations on text paper. Book is tight and clean. Endpapers show minor, light soiling. No writing within. Tan cloth boards are bright, clean and attractive. Five small instances of shelf-rubbing to cloth on top edge of panels; VG+ otherwise. A tight, attractive copy of Cather's classic in a most attractive, 1941 DJ.
