First UK edition hard back binding in publisher's original colour illustrated paper covered boards. 8vo. 9½'' x 7''. Contains 64 pages of colour illustrations with text around. Due to the success of Dr Seuss' books, an independent publishing company was formed, called: Beginner Books. When he first began writing and illustrating children's books, Theodor Geisel combined 'Dr.' and 'Seuss,' his middle name, which was also his mother's maiden name, to create the pseudonym 'Dr. Seuss.' Theodor Seuss Geisel, became the president and the editor. Rubbing along the bottom edges of the boards. Very Good condition book in Good condition dust wrapper with 40 mm closed tear and related crease lines to the foot of the front cover, chips and tears to the spine ends and corners. Crease to front endpaper else a very handsome near fine copy. The clipped dustwrapper is from the second state with Horton Hatches The Egg advertised on the rear flap with a $2.00 price. Only the first two books by Seuss are mentioned on the copyright page. The dustwrapper has a couple of smallish triangular chips at the base of the front panel and some smaller wear at spine tips. Very nice example of this early printing.
