Hardcover. Condition: Very good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very good. Steve Chorney (Jacket Art) (illustrator). ix, [3], 175, [5] pages. Illustrations. Dan Gutman (born October 19, 1955)[1] is an American writer, primarily of children's fiction. His works include the Baseball Card Adventures children's book series that began with Honus & Me, and the My Weird School series and spinoff series including My Weird School Daze and My Weirder School. Gutman's Baseball Card Adventures series, illustrated by Steve Chorney, revolves around a child named Joe Stoshack who travels back in time to meet baseball legends. The first work is based on the premise of his finding a Honus Wagner T206 baseball card in the attic of his neighbor. Further books in the series feature Jackie Robinson, Babe Ruth, Shoeless Joe Jackson, Dorothy Maguire, Abner Doubleday, Satchel Paige, Jim Thorpe, Ray Chapman, Roberto Clemente, Ted Williams, and Willie Mays. The original story, Honus & Me, was made into the Turner Network Television TV-movie The Winning Season, starring Matthew Modine and Kristin Davis. Stosh is back in a new time-travel baseball adventure. This time, his vintage baseball cards carry him and his elderly friend Flip Valentini to 1942 to use a radar gun to determine if Satchel Paige really threw the wickedest, speediest fastball in baseball history. They meet up with Satch on the way to the Negro League World Series. As they travel, they enjoy Satch's eccentricities and unique personality, as well as the camaraderie and competitive spirit among the enormously talented ballplayers. But they are also witness to the humiliation, pain and hopelessness of segregation. The trip also results in a life-changing alteration of Flip's personal history. Stosh is a terrific narrator, a thoroughly modern kid who understands that the past has much to teach us. Gutman has again crafted a delightful mix of humor, magic and history surrounded by the sheer joy of baseball. First Edition [Stated], First Printing [Stated].

Trade paperback. Condition: Good. Steve Chorney (Cover Illustration) (illustrator). First Printing [Stated]. The format is approximately 5 inches by 7 inches. xii, 108 pages. Small illustrations. Glossary. Decorative cover. The cover has some wear and soiling. Deborah Baer has worked as an entertainment editor at Ladies Home Journal, Parents, CosmoGirl!, and Lifetime magazines, where she interviewed more than 100 celebrities including Angelina Jolie, Britney Spears, Pierce Brosnan, Ellen DeGeneres, Julianne Moore, and Shania Twain. Now freelancing, Dibs has written for Seventeen, US Weekly, Star, Hamptons, More, Marie Claire, Galmour, Self and the New York Daily News. After earning a master's degree from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism. E.J. Boeke began working in promotions/marketing at Conde nast. She has spent most of her eight-year career there at Conde Nast Traveler, Details, GQ and now Gourmet, with a few stints as a copywriter for The New York Times in between. Steven Chorney illustrated the cover (born 1951 in Washington, D.C.) is an American artist, graphic designer and illustrator with a primary focus in the motion picture industry. Over the 1983-86 period, Chorney created dramatic illustrations for over 50 TV Guide advertisements for CBS and NBC television programs, including, Dynasty, Miami Vice, Mickey Spillane's Mike Hammer, Private Eye, T.J. Hooker, and Cagney and Lacey. In 1987 his work on the popular television series Designing Women won First Place in The Hollywood Reporter Key Art Awards for Television. The artist's drawing skills and dramatic technique have been applied to over 120 motion picture campaigns. RARE Chorney cover! Can't we all just get along? The 2004 election is over and people are pissed. The re-election of W for a second term has divided the country in ways we haven't seen since the OJ verdict, since Britney v. Christina, since paper v. plastic. The cultural divide between the liberal elite and the compassionate conservative has pitted family member against family member, co-worker against co-worker, and on a much larger scale, the Blue Stater v. Red Stater. We're supposed to be the "United" States, but right now, we're about as united as Shaq and Kobe in the NBA finals. RED v. BLUE is an irreverent guide to the history, demographics, ideals, and philosophies of "the enemy." This hilarious humor book is an equal opportunity offender, and the Red side of the great divide will embrace how its handbook showcases the hypocrisies and vulnerabilities of the opponents. The book includes: The History of Stater Hating, including origins of Red v. Blue; A rundown of divisive issues defining each side's position on Coke v. Pepsi, creamy v. chunky, Roe v. Wade, paper or plastic, Vietnam, Leno v. Letterman, Big Mac v. Whopper, Ruben v. Clay, et al.; The 10 Commandments (according to the Red side); State of the Red nationâ"laced with fun factoidsâ"with an in-depth look inside the mind of Red Staters regarding morals, foreign policy, drinking, smoking, and drugs, religion, entertainment, and consumer characteristics.; Quizzes to determine what shade of red you are.; A turncoat's survival guide (ways to survive in you're living in a state of the other color). And much much more hilarious commentary on the great divide.
