It is a very unique book comprised of various short writings, mostly poems. They are all written in Slave dialect. Every page is decorated across the bottom with silhouettes of black children. The book is VERY GOOD ++. The very SCARCE dust jacket is majorly chipped at all the corners, and has a 2" stain on the lower right front. That stated however, the cover art of the jacket shows a black woman Sweeping, and still is fully intact. The front board is an artful rendering of a "black mammy" sweeping the floor (with the allusion to the title). Every page bottom edge is lined with a row of small black children running in line. Book is tight, clean, and unmarked; jacket has a light dampstain to the bottom corner, two tiny corner chips, and a larger 1/2"v chip to the rear panel, and is otherwise whole, bright, and protected by a Brodart cover. Very scarce Black Americana.

Bound in maroon cloth centrally stamped in a pictorial gilt, spine lettering gilt, a damp stain to lower front corner, new endpapers, damp staining to lower corners of leaves.
