Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. VERY RARE SIGNED FIRST EDITION HARDBACK. Knopf published this superb selection of Clive James's writings as an introduction volume to an American audience. Culled from the critical essays CJ had written between 1968 to 1979, it provides a wonderful overview. This is a fascinating associative copy. Clive James bought some of the British painter Peter Kettle's work, and this copy has the artist's blind stamp, a colour report of one of the paintings CJ bought, and a dedication to the artist with the author's signature. It reads 'To Peter, from the owner of The Delaminating Swan! Clive James'. A near fine copy of this handsome first printing, with untrimmed leading edge text block, printed on fine paper, and with a two colour cloth binding. The slightly used jacket is protected, and it has some very minor tears. The book is in near fine condition the jacket is very good. A RARE COLLECTABLE MADE EVEN RARER BY THE SIGNATURE. Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. RARE SIGNED FIRST EDITION. 'To Peter Kettle with full confidence in his glittering future - Clive James'. This may be the only copy signed, and it undoubtedly is the only one to bear this compliment to me, no matter how inaccurate it has turned out. So far, anyway. Clive bought three of my paintings and one of these is included as a loose insert. I sell this reluctantly, which explains the inflated price. Clean and tight first printing in a superb protected jacket. Language: eng. Signed by Author.

Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. RARE SIGNED FIRST EDITION. Possibly the only signed copy on the internet and most certainly UNIQUE with these enclosures. The author has written on the inside front endpaper: 'To Peter Kettle, from the new proprietor of The Delaminating Swan - Clive James.' Enclosed with this is a fine reproduction of the painting mentioned, which CJ had bought at the artist's London one man show. This is signed by the artist on the back of the card, Peter Kettle. Another enclosure is a hand written letter about The Remake from Clive James, in which he mentions the novel as 'My favourite among my own books'. This is also signed, on BBC notepaper. Unclipped jacket is protected. This really is a unique group of items. I am reluctant to sell it which is why the price is high. Language: eng. Signed by Author.
