Manuscript / Paper Collectible First Edition Signed
Single Sheet. Condition: Very Good +. First Edition, First Printing. Original mailing envelope measures 9 X 6 Inches. Rare FIRST GENERATION "Supermen of America" Superman Fan Club welcome package. The kit is complete and includes: Superman's Secret Code Manual, welcome letter from Supermen of America Headquarters, the official membership certificate, the original (undated) Superman pinback and the original mailing envelope. Each of the certificates were numbered, this one being issued to fan club member #227,032 (Lawrence Baltzer of Tripp, South Dakota). Starting in 1939, young fans of Superman could send away to become a justice-seeking member of the Supermen of America club. Each member of the organization pledged to, "do everything possible to increase his or her STRENGTH and COURAGE, to aid the cause of JUSTICE, to keep absolutely SECRET the SUPERMEN CODE, and to follow the announcements of the SUPERMEN OF AMERICA in each month's issue of ACTION COMICS." Signed in print by Clark Kent, with a parenthetical SUPERMAN below the signature line. It is important to note the differences in this GENUINE first generation kit: 1) the pinback is not dated and has no production statement on the inner circle & 2) Superman's Secret Code is not dated on the front cover. All pieces kept in the original mailing envelope as issued. The certificate is folded. The envelope exhibits a hint of wear at the flap, with one small 1/4 inch closed tear. A spectacular lot overall.
