Division I - Good/None. Green decorative cloth boards with a little rubbing/bumping to edges/spine, minor splitting to spine edges & head of spine, minor soiling. Contents generally clean and tight but for minor browning/soiling, tissue guard at frontis missing, minor splitting to hinges. Division II - Good/None. Boards as above with a little rubbing/bumping to edges/spine. Contents generally clean with a little soiling/browning, minor splitting to hinges, some damage to tissue guards. B&W illustrations throughout. A complete history of the horse and horse racing in England. The work was originally published to subscribers in 3 volumes, each divided into two divisions in separate volumes, giving a total of 6 separate volumes. This listing is for Volume 1 divisions I and II. The preface for the 1st division, along with a list of illustrations in both divisions, appear at the end of the 2nd division. The 2 volumes include 12 photogravure plates plus numerous other B&W plates & illustrations. The plate shown as being opposite page xvii of the Foreword is actually found as the frontis to the division II volume. Nice copies of both books included in Volume 1 of this important work.
