In spite of all of this, a solid copy with handsome colored illustrations on most pages.

In an entry in the back of the book, the author speaks of being in Middleburg and the island of Marken before writing this book. Other places are in the story and included on a map of Holland. Included in the story are windmills, dikes, canals, canal boat ride, tulips, wooden shoes, Dutch clothing, orphan girls' red and black dresses, a Dutch house, money exchange, Kermis week, Edam cheese, St. Nicholas Day, fishermen, and a visit with Princess Juliana. Most of the illustrations, all pastel, are in full color. The cloth has soiling from shelf wear and handling. The top and bottom edges of the spine strip and three board corners are frayed. The text block ends have darkened. The pages have occasional fingerprint soiling, mostly on margin. The title page has a chipped corner. Scans e-mailed upon request.
