First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Not a book but a 10-inch, 33-1/3 rpm "Long Play Microgroove Unbreakable Record," (Mono) Coral CRL 56000, including "Panama," "Little Rock Getaway," "Wolverine Bluies," "Washington and Lee Swing," "Peruna" (the song of Southern Methodist University), "High Society," and Edward "Kid" Ory's "Muskrat Ramble," as well as the title tune. (When trumpet player Joe "King" Oliver left his band in 1918, Ory -- jazz pioneer and "King of the Tailgate Trombone" -- offered the spot to a teen-age newcomer from the Colored Waifs' Home, but only providing young Louis Armstrong would buy some long pants.) Jacket illustration by the Chicago Tribune's Carl Ed (1890-1959 -- he pronounced it "Eed"), known for his strip "Harold Teen." Band leader Crosby was Bing's younger brother; the combo here features Ray Bauduc on drums. Vinyl very-good-plus; jacket would grade "near mint" save that someone has run some Scotch "Magic" tape along the top edge. Reduced from $35.
