(Ireland) Curran, John PhilpotJohn Philpot Curran (1750-1817) was a noted Irish orator, lawyer, Member of Parliament and writer of humorous and romantic poetry. He was early in his career nicknamed "Stuttering Jack Curran" for a speech impediment which he later overcame and was widely know in England, Ireland and America for his defence of Irish politicians charged with high treason
